COME HERE FOR A HUG + A TUG AT YOUR HEART

In an almost loveless world where the elderly silently mourn their "Paradise Lost" and teenagers grapple with their own existential issues, there is a man who has begun a daring and humble idea called "Free Hugs".
See this marvelous video where simplicity and beauty of the soul meet to instantly make a difference in people's lives. It more than proves the old adage that THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE and that it really doesn't take all that to make a difference!!! The most important things in life ARE really the simple things !

The STARBUCKS APOCALYPSE !!! ( It's Hilarious !! )

Besides oil, America runs on coffee and its caffeine, as opposed to tea; we Americans virtually become immobilized by the threat of no oil, coffee, or caffeine. This is just simply how we get our day going. In the cities of Chicago and New York alone (where this video was made), there are gasoline stations and Starbuck Coffeehouses on every other street corner. Yet, in an unprecedented move last Tuesday, the Starbucks Corporation closed all of its coffeehouses in these metropolitan areas and the entire United States for 3 whole hours in February 2008. What followed was a classic example of total human meltdown and mayhem for 3 crazy hours.
Take a look at this HILARIOUS video dramatization of a moment in recent American history:

This is a completely stupid video. First of all, Starbucks is about the worst coffee on the planet; second, contrary to popular belief it is a very bad company, responsible for exploiting coffee growing countries, un-ecological, and they do not pay there employees what they claim. If you pay the high price they ask for a cup of coffee, then I have a bridge I would love to sell you. If people are really as messed up as portrayed in this video, then no wonder this world is heading for an extreme disaster!!!!!

JOHNNY DEPP was IN CHICAGO FILMING NEW MOVIE - In theaters THIS SUMMER

Hollywood makes A LOT of movies in Chicago every year. Since Chicago has a notorious gangster past, Hollywood is once again in town to make their latest gangster movie. Today, April 5, 2008, and all this week Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are in Chicago filming a new movie called "Public Enemies" about the life of gangster John Dillinger and the birth of the FBI, set in the 1930s Depression. Nine years ago, I actually lived four blocks away from the Biograph Theater where Dillinger was shot in 1934. In the other direction from my house five blocks away, this is where Al Capone's St. Valentine Day's Massacre took place in 1929.

Johnny Depp plays John Dillinger and Christian Bale plays Melvin Purvis, the FBI agent who tracked Dillinger to the Biograph Theater, which I happen to pass by all the time. Last Tuesday, April 2, they were right down the street from my house, filming on the exact corner where I had just went this past February to get my income tax done. The film crew had brought in a snow-making truck so that it would look like winter time on the set. One block from there is Wrigley Field, where Dillinger attended several Cubs games in 1934 while hiding out from police.
The casting company was auditioning for extras in Chicago, but female extras have to be a dress size no larger than 10, so that cancelled me out. The film is also being shot in Wisconsin and Indiana.
Movies always come out 12 months after the close of the filming, so look for "Public Enemies" in theaters around Summer/Fall 2009.

to more easily read the captions under my Slideshow photos of Johnny Depp filming the movies here in Chicago. ( Then click on each picture to enlarge the picture and to leave a picture comment. )
Also, read about how Heath Ledger and Christian Bale were here in Chicago in the spring/summer of 2007 filming the movie, "The Dark Knight". See my 2 blogs to see where and how they made the movie:

HAIL TO THE CHIEF PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA-Rama !!

MY EDITORIAL

written starting on June 1, 2008, 5:20 p.m. ( June 1 starts at the bottom of this blog to the most recent entries at the top of this blog ).
January 20, 2009 - The Inauguration of the 44th President of the United States: Barack Obama !!!

Stephen's Inauguration Breakdown

After watching Barack Obama's inauguration, Stephen wants to be black for just one day.

I can't tell you how we African-Americans felt on November 4, 2008 !! We simultaneously felt the jubilation of the moment AND our painful historic memories of 1863 when Lincoln freed the slaves and 1619 when the first Africans came to Virginia.
I can't imagine the sheer happiness, hope, and ecstacy that the slaves must have felt when President Lincoln freed them in 1863 !!!!!!
So, to put it short . . . like it or not, America, we have a new president.
( By the way, pardon the language of the 1st video. It is just part of our culture, a culture of 389 years of suffering and pain. )

November 5, 2008: Advice to Obama

October 1, 2008: Poet Maya Angelou’s Benedition –
Her Inaugural Poem for President Obama

I’m a high school English teacher, and David Allen Grier does a fantastic Maya Angelou !! Watch:
November 3, 2008: Indecision 2008 - Last Day
October 23, 2008: Bus Tour of the Other America

After Sarah Palin’s speech about real Americans live in small town America, Rob Riggle gave a tour of the “scary” big city:
10,000 McCainiacs ( October 14, 2008 )

John McCain has created a monster that has turned on him. The incredulous saga continues of the:
"NO ISSUES discussed - It's ALL ABOUT OBAMA" thing.
The year isn't 1848 in America, folks. Last time I looked at the calendar today, it said, "October 2008". This is SUPPOSED to be 21ST CENTURY AMERICA!!! Not the DARK AGES in EUROPE !!!
Look at your calendars, people. It SHOULD say October 2008, not October 1008 . . . Haven't we learned anything in this span of time ?!!! Not only do we literally have at our fingertips centuries and millennia worth of great classic literature that warns us of the "monster in us" and the "monster without" by such writers as Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley ( author of "Frankenstein" ), Stephen King, Shirley Jackson, Oscar Wilde ( "The Picture of Dorian Gray" ), etc., but hollywood has also made THOUSANDS of movies on this theme, the latest movie which is at theaters right now, "Quarantine".
MOST OF ALL, the Bible gives dire warning about hate mongers and those who cultivates and encourages fear in others and spreads discord among people. Yet, . . . who listens to the Bible or the writers of literature, or hollywood's offering on the subject, for that matter. People say, "It's just a STORY or a movie !!! It's not talking about us." How many TIMES have I told my English classes that this is NOT true !!! The messages of these books and movies ARE trying to convey to you that very message about life and humanity !! Yet . . . "It was just a good story" . . . SAD !!! So, the madness and insanity continues down through history . . .
Case in point, take a look at this latest political occurrence on October 14, 2008. It's just so incredible, it's really FUNNY and pathetic:

He's getting ready to ANNOUNCE HIS VICTORY !! Yes, Obama is a Chicago resident in my own town, Chicago. Our Chicago Channel 7 News station showed Obama coming out of a building at 500 N. Kingsbury just a mile from my house !!

I'm African-American, and I think everybody has been making "Much Ado About Nothing" as Shakespeare wisely put it. I think people are falling back on their old racial fears and are trying to cover them up by pointing a finger at others for what they themselves already are. This situation is one step from becoming like the Salem Witch Hunt of 1692.

If you want my own opinion, all of this is one big, tired, old YAWN, one big deja vu in sheep's clothing. Like Shakespeare said, this is "Much Ado about Nothing"!! Obama is a man running for office just like Abraham Lincoln did 150 years ago before him. In fact, Abraham Lincoln AND Martin Luther King would both be EXTREMELY proud of Obama and themselves, and would encourage Obama all the way !!

On the other hand, it's shameful how this country is acting ! I thought there was a SEPARATION of Church and State. Yet, ALL OF A SUDDEN, people are so hypocritically concerned about its inseparability when it concerns Obama !!!!!!!!!!!! And the man has to stand up there alone and defend himself before a land full of hypocrites !!!

But the second you talk about putting the Ten Commandments back into the schools where they need it more today than EVER before, people want to immediately scream, "Separation of Church and State !!!"

CHRIST PUT IT BEST:

"HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN, CAST THE FIRST STONE."

How that SOOOOOO well applies to America's attempts of trying to slam Obama and all of these ministers, both black and white. These pastors are speaking from a whole other context, historical and spiritual, and from an entirely different arena !!! If Jesus were here, I want to know how many of you ( who are against Obama, that is ) would lie through your teeth saying you wouldn't do the same thing to HIM ! Because, TRUST ME, Jesus would have said something today that would have completely ticked you off !!!

Let's be honest, "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH !!!"

After pastors have for centuries put it in every conceivable way for people to understand, sometimes all that is left is to just start slinging it around any ol' kind of way. After all, it's the only way that seems to get anybody's attention anymore these days. People will prick up their ears only when they can find something to protest.

And who is going to deny that in Lincoln's day if there had been television, the press, the pompous news media, and diabolical sound bites of Lincoln spinning 24-hours out of control, who would deny that Abraham Lincoln wouldn't have been run out of town before he could have ever had the chance to be shot in the head?

So . . . all of a sudden, America is soooooo concerned, and now a STATE person is tethered to the CHURCH, as if by magic !

This is SOOOOOO prophetic and foreshadowing, people !!! In the Book of Revelation, God warns that you too will be FORCED to deny Him. Only you will be MADE to deny Him on a GRAND SCALE; look it up in the Book of Revelations. What you've done to Obama is just a snapshot of what the future holds for you; it's just the tip of the iceberg. What goes around really WILL eventually come around, folks !! I was just forced off my job of 31 years exactly a year ago this month of June by a crooked principal ( or headmistress, as the British say ), and I get freakin' flashbacks now every time I see cruelty's ugly head raised and camouflaged behind so many different masks !!

But I can't tell you how MANY, MANY times God has blessed me for what I had suffered under that horrible woman's reign of terror !!! I can't watch the witches of the "Wizard of Oz", "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe", "Prince Caspian", or any horror flick, for that matter, without thinking of her, BIG TIME !!! However, if my principal had only known how much I am being blessed and will continue to be blessed FOREVERMORE for what she had done to me, she WOULD HAVE NEVER EVEN TRIED to unknowingly give me that honor.

You see, there is "A SECRET" that religious people like me have known for a long time. "The Secret" is no secret at all, really; it amazes me how people think that the book and movie known as "The Secret" is so incredible. I've known that and much more for a long time. Just like gravity, there are invisible things and Laws that GOD has built into the Universe. If you want to know some of what I'm talking about, go see the new movie "Prince Caspian". C. S. Lewis wrote about "THE TRUE Secret" in his book, Prince Caspian, around 60 years ago. This is the true "Secret" we Christians know. You also saw it in the movie "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" based C. S. Lewis' novel, but "Prince Caspian" portrays it even more. So the "bad guys" in the movies AND IN REAL LIFE are the actual BIG LOSERS; this is just one of the many invisible Laws of the Universe ! This week I'm writing a blog on my review of the movie "Prince Caspian". I'll announce it on the Yuwie Message Board. Don't miss it !!

I would NEVER deny the Church because that just comes too close to denying Christ. And none of the ministers associated TO Obama OR McCain should feel that they've been half-nelsoned or full-nelsoned into any apologies. I say let GOD be the Judge to determine who is telling more truth here, the ministers or the people who judge them !!!! Who has the incredible gall to take HIS place in this matter?

Well . . . I have been trying to laugh my way through this bunch of "stuff" ( expletive deleted ), so let me continue to do so by offering you the latest on the:

********** OBAMA DRAMA ***********:

Recognizing that humor is an important part of life, all of the political candidates, Obama, Clinton, McCain, as well as President Bush, have poked fun at themselves lately on Saturday Night Live and other television events.

If you need to relax from the stress of all of the political 'drama' and need a laugh, here's my take on the lighter side of all of this "Obama Drama". It's true, "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine." - Proverbs 17:22.

So today, May 27, there's more humor to be had on the campaign trail. Political journalists and analysts are once again on the prowl, sniffing out a story in the Obama camp. Man, it's got to be A LOT of fun being a journalist !

Take a look:

Today, 5/1/08, on late night, the saga continues. Though the media has in any other situation traditionally raised the banner for the Constitutional concept of the Separation of Church and State, it hypocritically can't stop its insatiable feasting like vultures on this particular story, as the paparazzi would do in their own chaotic arena. The news media has now tasted blood on its lip. As they have put it today, Obama has "thrown Reverend Wright under the bus". But with blood now in the mouth of the media, they have regressed and given into their primal instincts and fears, and can't stop their insatiable lust for feasting on this unprecedented story.

So . . . get out your blood pressure medication, ice bag and thermometer, and put your feet in some cold, ice water. Today, 5/1/08, on late night, the saga continues. Here is today's rendering of a comic review of showman extraordinaire Rev. Jeremiah Wright's "Reverending Story":

Monday, 4/28/08, on late night TV, Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his entertainment skills were given the spotlight from a comic point of view. So get an ice bag, thermometer, a chill pill, and watch the latest political goings-on from a humorous perspective.

The first segment is humorous news concerning Congo, Africa, and the last segment was a visit from our former President Jimmy Carter, who thankfully presented much needed sanity and levity to today's insane political world and to the program, as well.

Great blog, Joyce. Although Obama is certainly no Jesus Christ, I think he deserves a chance. He's the President because he WORKED HARD & positioned himself for the position & then RAN for the office. Anyone who wants to do that , can if they want to bad enough. I hope he's able to live up to all of these 'expectations' that are being created out of him. Remember that ALL presidents have to buck 'big corporation' , that is what ultimately runs this country. He will run into the same brick wall that all of the others did. That is why it is important for Americans to work together and UNITE. It is up to us, he cannot magically do all of the work himself. If Americans do not speak up now, there will be no change, just more of the same. People have to stop worrying about their own concerns & start

I am breaking my policy here of never responding to any of my readers' responses. I never responded until today because, first of all, you all have been so kind as to stop and give your opinion to my blogs, and also, because my blogs are an open forum for all and any opinions and viewpoints. ALL OPINIONS ARE WELCOME HERE>

However, first, I want to thank the previous person for her compliment to me. But when you mentioned George Orwell's book, 1984, and whether I read it before, I had to drop my policy for one moment.

I have been a high school English teacher in Chicago for 31 years. I retired from teaching in 2007. In fact, Barack Obama recently selected our CEO of the Chicago Public Schools, Arne Duncan, as the new head of the U.S.Department of Education. ( Obama and Duncan were good friends here in Chicago. ) In other words, Arne Duncan was MY BOSS as the head of the Chicago Public Schools.

(I ran out of room here; so see my continuing response above.)

Hi,

In my modest opinion, Obama is an exciting figure and was the best choice for leading the U.S.A. Nobody on earth has everything or all knowledge ( including politicians ), so for his lack of experience on foreign policy, he wisely chose Joe Biden. Many politicians with a remarkable record of experience failed when they got to lead a Government. Obama is fresh and talented, so let's give him a chance.

Obama's success will depend on his chosen team and his ability to lead his Government.

WEll someone has a sense of humor, but what we have to decide is not a laughing matter. how many of the facts have we really researcched to find out if any of the accusations are true, or do we just believe what we want to believe, I think OBAMA is a very cool GUy, a smooth talker, and he can lie with a straight face, it has nothing to do with black or white, That man scares the HELL out of me!! We will only have ourselves to blame when we look back, hind site it 20/20

There's just so much ignorance at a lot of the McCain rallies. SNL was making fun of the woman dressed in red in that video who was stating that Obama is an Arab. Unfortunately, some people educate themselves at blog sites these days and have completely stopped reading the newspapers or trying to educate themselves by listening to views other than their own. People need to search for alternative viewpoints in the media and seek personal growth...

I agree with the separation of church and state are NOT in the constitution...I noticed someone mentioned that it is...it is NOT. You must be into some New Age things...that is what I understand 'The Secret' to be about. Just have to read it carefully and compare it to the Word. The main idea of 'The Secret' is for us to create, not God, our own joyful life. Without God in my life, being the author and finisher of my faith, I can do nothing! I am lost...I can't make myself happy, give myself peace, make myself attract other people...etc.

Jesus is all in ALL...God is the great I AM...we are not the I AM or why would we even need Jesus' saving power, grace, mercy, and forgiveness?

I am not trying to upset you my dear friend. I am here to warn you about the blind leading the blind into the pit or ditch. The author of 'The Secret', is he born again? Does he claim to be a Christian at all? Does he give all the glory to God for this insight he has gotten from either God or satan?
Reply | Comment | Message | Delete | Block | Spam | 6/5/2008 7:00:06 PM
The separation of church and state is a legal and political principle derived from the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which reads, 'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . .' The phrase 'separation of church and state', which does not appear in the Constitution itself, is generally traced to an 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists, where Jefferson spoke of the combined effect of the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. It has since been quoted in several opinions handed down by the United States Supreme Court.

Are you comparing Obama to Jesus???? Jesus was God in the flesh, lived a SINLESS life, died for our sins, gave his life willingly! Obama is being put up front and center as the democratic poster boy with virtually NO EXPERIENCE, tell me, WHAT does he stand for? Your comparisons don't hold weight. By what standard are you measuring Truth?
Obama 'disowned' Pastor Wright not because he disagreed with his statements, but because Wright said 'he is saying what he has to say as a politician'...and that is not good for Obama's candidacy. You don't sit under someone for 20 years and not know what they stand for. I hardly think you can compare Obama to Jesus or even Abraham Lincoln! It has nothing to do with the color of his skin, or Hilary's gender even. What do they stand for? What are the issues? What is their theology.

I think Obama is a fine Senator and he should stay a Senator, because he does NOT have the foreign knowledge, expertise or savvy to be Commander in Chief. It scares me to think that so many people do not recognize this short-coming.
Reply | Comment | Message | Delete | Block | Spam | 6/3/2008 3:39:39 PM
Obama will be a much better Commander in Chief than President Shrub was. Barack Obama is willing to communicate with other countries... no matter if it is a country that follows our ideals or not. It is much more desirable to come to an agreement with another country through diplomacy when possible, than to refuse to talk with them and go straight to war!
Reply | Comment | Message | Delete | Block | Spam | 11/11/2008 6:54:01 PM
Well, frankly I think you are confusing Obama with Jesus. The separation of church and state was put into the US Constitution for a good reason. The framers had just come here from a place in which there was no religious freedom at that time. If you look around the world today most of the war is due to people trying to impose their religions on others. As far as Im concerned Obama's ex minister preached hate, I heard it and so did a lot of other people. It wasnt a loop it was the whole sorry thing. The important thing is to make expectations of others that you yourself could live up to. In other words, would this kind of talk be acceptable coming out of someone else's mouth? Many of us opposed David Dukes and his hate mongering as well, although his supporters believed him to be a true leader. It just depends on your standpoint. We need a leader to unite us and for all Obama has claimed that he would, he hasnt and we are ever further divided.

hi Joyce, we as Australians don't get to see much of the the American news so we don't understand the furor of Obama. I get that he is not getting a fair go and I am all for being given a fair run. Sometimes I think that we are lucky, and then other times I think that we stick our heads in the sand. No one in power likes the truth being told unless it is their truth.
So when it comes to politics it is always an emotional thing so I just wanted to say that I am sad if it is not a fair race as always someones ego always gets in the way.

You may well be right but you undermine your argument by twice misquoting Shakespeare. The play is called 'Much Ado About Nothing'

LOL!!!! Thought I commented before - but guess not :-) I think he is hilarious .... To be a good preacher man, one must be a good show man - and if not the pulpit, I bet he can successfully do comedy :-)

I think if we laughed more rather than bash ... hmmm ... nice thought huh ... :-) YAY!!! positive thoughts (-:

Still frown on his remark about god and america from the pulpit - but everyone says REALLY stooopid stuff sometime :-(

I agree, it is good to laugh at ourselves and even better to laugh at those in the public eye...I just hope we are all still laughing four years from now. I humbly ask you to read my blog...OOOPS
